Character Education & Positive Behavior

At Carver Elementary our goal is to promote positive behavior. Through the use of our Positive Behavior Support Team, students will receive support, counsel, and verbal reinforcement. Our teachers and staff reinforce positive behavior with the use of Character Education building vocabulary every week. The U.S. Dept. of Education and Carver Elementary agree that students should have strong character. Here are some ways that character can be describe according to the U.S. Dept. of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/parents/academic/help/citizen/part4.html)

Character is a set of qualities, or values, that shape our thoughts, actions, reactions and feelings. People with strong character:

  • show compassion,
  • are honest and fair,
  • display self-discipline in setting and meeting goals,
  • make good judgments,
  • show respect to others,
  • show courage in standing up for beliefs,
  • have a strong sense of responsibility,
  • are good citizens who are concerned for their community, and
  • maintain self-respect.

With these same values in mind, we will promote positive behavior in a safe environment.
