Principal's Corner

Dear Carver Elementary and Arts Magnet School Parents, Community, and Stakeholders:

It is with great excitement that I write this introduction to you as the new Principal of Carver Elementary Magnet School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.  I feel very fortunate to be part of this school and to support the students and families.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty years.  I have worked with students, ranging in age from Kindergarten through 8th grade, in a variety of roles. I have impacted learning as a classroom National Board Certified Teacher, curriculum writer, ARI Reading Specialist, and curriculum specialist. Most recently, I served as assistant principal of John Herbert Phillips International Baccalaureate Academy (Birmingham, AL.). I attended undergrad at Auburn University (War Eagle) and received a Master’s and Ed.S from the University of Montevallo. I recently completed my Ph.D. at the University of Alabama (War Eagle).  I am thrilled to bring my skills and experiences, as an educational leader, to CEMS.
On a personal note, I am the wife of Jason, an amazing man! We have three outstanding adult sons, J.T., Jeremy, and Donovan and a “daughter-dog” Jacqueline, whom we affectionately call, “Jackie”!  We are all PROUD Auburn Alums. We enjoy traveling together and have grown even closer during these unprecedented times.
I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of CEMS this year and in the years to come. Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students. I believe in the potential of all students. Our scholars realize their potential, when dynamic teachers access the knowledge, strengths, and unlimited capacity presented to them. I understand that parents are the glue that cements our success. I know that we are in uncertain times, and a lot remains undetermined. However, I know that success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. I believe that this is an opportunity for us to improve the trajectory of CEMS and prepare our scholars for success.
I understand that I am not alone in this endeavor. MPS administration has spoken highly of the Carver Family. I welcome your input, and my door is always open. I am looking forward to working with and for you all! Despite all that we are faced with, I am confident that this will be an amazing year at CEMS.
